Orientation
Your employer will give you an orientation covering their safety, food-safety, scheduling and procedures. Pay attention and ask about anything you don't understand: nobody expects you to know everything on day one.
What to bring
- Identification and any documents you're asked for.
- Comfortable, light clothing; layers for travelling (it can be cold outside).
- Closed, comfortable shoes for standing many hours.
- A water bottle.
What employers expect
- Punctuality and attendance: work is organized in teams.
- Following instructions and procedures.
- Respect for co-workers and supervisors.
- Letting them know in advance if you can't come in or have a problem.
- A willingness to learn: experience comes with practice.
Communication
Many greenhouses speak English as well as other languages. Learning basic English words (tools, crops, common instructions) will help you a lot. If you don't understand an instruction, ask for it to be repeated or shown to you.
